Description

A homeless young woman finds an unexpected family in beloved New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s novel of healing hearts and new beginnings in a small Texas town.In the fading town of Rooster, Texas, all that’s really left is a service station, a church…and the Banty House, a long-ago Depression-era brothel. For more than seventy-five years, Betsy, Connie, and Kate Carson have called their mama’s house a home. The three eccentric sisters get by just fine with their homemade jams and jellies, a little moonshine on the side, and big hearts always open to strangers. Like Ginger Andrews. An abandoned teen with a baby on the way and nowhere to go, she’s given a room to call her own for as long as she wants. The kind invitation is made all the sweeter when Ginger meets the sisters’ young handyman, Sloan Baker. But with a past as broken as Ginger’s, he’s vowed never to get close to anyone again. As a season of change unfolds, Ginger and Sloan might discover a warm haven to heal in the Banty House, a place to finally belong, where hope and dreams never fade.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be the last.A lovely, light-hearted, interesting and entertaining read, the Banty House (originally a brothel through the Depression years and owned by their Mama some 75 years before) and where the three eccentric sisters; Betsy, Connie and Kate Carson still live in the town called Rooster, Texas with a population of only 95. The sisters are full of character, full of life and kind and generous who would never turn anyone away who was down on their luck which was the rule set by their ‘Momma’s rules from a decade ago’ – never turn anyone away. They show this by helping Ginger a homeless teenager who is pregnant and Sloan a retired Military Bomb expert suffering from PTSD and they have interesting stories to. At times I felt I was there, it felt so real and I loved the true southern comfort the sisters showed and I could just imagine them making jams and jellies and a little bit of moonshine on the side. So pleased to see the storyline continued right to the end and loved how they all became connected and the story didn’t have loose ends. A heart-warming story and a good one to finish the year on. Would highly recommend.
