Description

All 39 episodes from the cult '70s sitcom series about one man's never-ending efforts to date his female flatmates. Chef Robin Tripp (Richard O'Sullivan) is discovered sleeping in the bath of gorgeous flatmates Chrissy and Jo (Paula Wilcox and Sally Thomsett) after their party. He desperately needs a place to stay, and they desperately need someone who can cook - seems ideal. Unfortunately, the landlords, George and Mildred Roper (Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce) don't approve, which is when Robin conceives his master plan, and decides to pretend that he's gay. Episodes comprise: 'Three's A Crowd', 'And Mother Makes Four', 'Some Enchanted Evening', 'And Then There Were Two', 'It's Only Money', 'Match Of The Day', 'No Children, No Dogs', 'While The Cat's Away', 'Colour Me Yellow', 'In Praise Of Older Men', 'Did You Ever Meet Rommel', 'Two Foot Two, Eyes Of Blue', 'Carry Me Back To Old Southampton', 'Cuckoo In The Nest', 'Come Into My Parlour', 'I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me', 'Of Mice And Women', 'Somebody Out There Likes Me', 'We Shall Not Be Moved', 'Three Of A Kind', 'Home And Away', 'One For The Road', 'All In The Game', 'Never Give Your Real Name', 'The Tender Trap', 'My Son, My Son', 'The Last Picture Show', 'Right Said George', 'A Little Knowledge', 'Love And Let Love', 'How Does Your Garden Grow?', 'Come Fly With Me', 'The Party's Over', 'One More For The Pot', 'The Generation Game' 'The Sunshine Boys', 'Mum Always Liked You Best', 'Fire Down Below' and 'Another Bride, Another Groom'.

i enjoyed this series very much. i love three's company and noticed that three's company was based on man about the house. i've always been curious about it, so on a whim, i ordered the series. man about the house utilizes intellectual humor, while three's company utilizes physical comedy (especially since john ritter was a freakin' GENIUS when it came to physical comedy!). i also enjoyed the landlord characters in man about the house, george and mildred; they were soooooooo much more interesting than stanley and helen (three's). while mildred was a housewife, very much like helen, mildred wore the pants in her marriage; george was a fairly whipped person since mildred was in control. helen, in contrast, was a lazy, love-starved housewife and her characterization became really trying and fatiguing.one of the differences i noticed about the two series revolved robin (man) and jack (three's). there was more emphasis on jack being a cooking student/chef in three's compared to robin in man. while robin/jack was interested in being a chef, three's did a much better job in showing that jack was a student and later a cook/chef; there are more scenes of jack cooking, working in restaurants, and eventually his bistro. man is different in that there are a lot less scenes showing that robin was a cooking student and they didn't have robin own his own restaurant in this series…that came separately in robin's nest.keep in mind that man about the house was filmed in the 70s, so it is quite dated. there is actually a lot of on screen smoking that just "feels" a lot different than three's (also filmed in the 70s). things that were acceptable back then and no longer acceptable today. watching this series, it is easy to see how man influenced three's. but there are subtle differences between the two series. i would say, "go for it!"
