I had never heard of Kate Ellis before even though I have and do read most of the authors Amazon compares her to, Ann Cleeve,J. M. Dalgliesh, Elly Griffiths.NOW I have, and I’ve found an entire series of MANY books I’ll love reading. I read so much that I sometimes face a fear that I’ve run out of the kind of authors, literary or genre, I prefer.THE MERCHANT’S HOUSE was perfect for me, similar to and a kind of combination of the virtues of the other contemporary mystery authors I cited above.Clearly and beautifully written. Characters I liked right away.Gorgeous Devon seaside location. Focused and charming plot lines, one from the present, one which our DI, Wesley Peterson, finds himself fascinated with, on the side, which he follows along with his longtime friend, Neil, whom he finds practicing active and fruitful archaeology there in Peterson’s and his wife Pam’s seaside posting.NOW I’m about to begin yet another treat, the next book in the series, THE ARMADA BOY.
