Caring for my parents at the end of their lives was one of my greatest blessings and greatest burdens. We all expect to outlive our folks but it seems no one is prepared when the time comes. I have a heavy heart for those who are in the seasons of caregiver: the before-season when our parents begin to need help; the during-season when our parents are acutely ill and are facing death; and the after-season when we mourn their death. These are tough seasons but ones we are commanded to do: Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you." I pray you are blessed by what the Lord has brought me through: He allowed me the privilege to fulfill my call to honor my parents. I didn't always do it perfectly, but I have been blessed for having done it.
