Description

Product Description This is the debut CD from the Bozeman, Montana band, Tumbledown House. Often described as 'gritty saloon jazz', 'modern speakeasy music', or 'Tom Waits in a cocktail dress', Tumbledown House incorporates lively fiddle playing, ragtime piano, indie-jazz guitar, and acoustic bass and drums to round out the storytelling of sultry vocalist, Gillian Howe. Now in it's third pressing, this debut CD has been a great success for the band and has helped them tour across the U.S. several times. Review Sultry, Sultry, Sultry. Has sort of a Fiona Apple sound. She has a wonderful voice that makes you want to listen to each song over and over again. My absolute favorite is Sweaty Tennessee. Love the lyrics and instruments used in every single track. LOVE! This is true music. --mbmilleTheir debut, self-titled album, expertly balances the weathered landscape of their song-writing with the clear tonality and production of a much more experienced group. One such stand-out track, Brothers McGhee finds Tumbledown House building a slow-paced, blues-driven effort that eventually erupts in an old-West chorus, reminiscent of what you might ve heard in a saloon nearly two-hundred years ago. Imagine minimalistic versions of Modest Mouse s first couple albums, but with sultry, female vocals. Tumbledown House s debut is primarily built on guitar and soulful singing, but they also show an affection for incorporating piano and small doses of percussion. --Pop Rocket PressWhen I listen to this album I'm instantly transported to a smokey dust bowl saloon and handed a tumbler of whiskey. And I listen to it a lot because I like being transported. --Todd Staplea
