SURELY GOD IS AN ARTIST Creation his artwork, Humanity his self-portrait, The morning stars his choir, and The Bible his storybook. The theology of this book reveals a storyteller’s point of view, describing history as a drama written by God himself in continual dialogue with us as real-life co-participants in the performance.I invite the reader to a challenging, stunning, and inspiring journey. The ancient world was governed by a triad of patriarchy, monarchy, and slavery. This system was at its zenith when Abraham appeared on the scene. This book explores the ways of God in the process of social transformation, beginning with the patriarchal family in Genesis. The history of the world could be described as an intermittent succession of traumas for the human race, these traumas resulting from the deception of the Snake. With Israel as his pilot group, God vindicated his own reputation that Satan had tarnished by defamation. God’s protection and provision for Israel despite the traumas they experienced, set the stage for redeeming the world. Moses told Israel that they would become a nation of priests, but this was a hard sell. Not until the Israelites lived in exile, scattered to all nations, that the world came to know that the stage was finally set for the church to be born. The Jews in exile became the catalyst that prepared the Gentiles to hear the story of the Savior, and the synagogue became the model for worship the new Gentile Christians followed. In this way Moses’ prophecy that the Jews would become a nation of priests was for that time fulfilled. Jesus’ triumph over suffering on the cross and his resurrection initiated what will be the ultimate triumph of God’s people over the chaos, violence, and fear that plagues the human race. Jesus said his story would initiate the transformation of the world similar to the way in which yeast transforms unbaked bread. In the end a new house of justice and truth built upon love and trust will emerge from the ferment of gospel yeast. He also said his gospel would be like an invasive species of seed in a field that transforms the entire social ecosystem. This book chronicles the process both before Christ and after; so that we might better understand the ways of God and cooperate with his redemptive work in the world. Although the changes have come at glacial speed, once in place, the changes are irreversible and the trajectory of gospel expansion will travel on until the time when the bride of Christ dwells with its Lord, doing the Father's work in the Father's house of praise and glory...
