I bought this book to read along with my 9-year-old grandson, so that we could have literary discussions. It was a great book, and kept our interest throughout (both of us). The school year starts out great, with the robot E that Mom developed, who goes to school for Maddie. Maddie has an immune-deficiency disorder and cannot be exposed to germs. Mom is the head of her department at Notre Dame University. Dad works from home, and writes comic books. Due to declining sales, he has lost his contract, and needs to come up with a new series idea. Sammy is a 5th grader, and he enjoys the company of E, sort of like a robot brother, when Maddie is not using E for school. Then a new robot, SS-10K, comes to school for Neddy, Freddy, or Teddy (they can't seem to remember his name), who also allegedly has an immune-deficiency disorder. SS-10K infects E with a computer virus, which makes E go "crazy," and E wrecks things in the town and then at the college. Mom is forced to take time off from work, and is told to disable her robots. The news reporters criticize the family robots, and praise the new SS-10K. Sammy takes the leadership needed to find out why E had been acting up. I would love to tell you the ending of the book, but I will try to refrain!! This book has good character development, and a clear rising action to the climax, and falling action to the resolution. James Patterson is my grandson's favorite author at this time.
