I find it hard to grasp what about this music might be construed as pretentious? I would call it free jazz, with structure; free and easy listening; or some such. My favorite track is "Cup in a Teastorm", because the title reminds me of the opposite of "tempest in a teapot." and it has an appropriate feel of calmness amidst agitation. Or as Clifford Allen says in the penultimate comment in his liner notes: "Strong Place" evinces warm bedrock firmly in place, even as Laubrock and her mates regularly shift the sands around one another."Ingrid Laubrock is the nominal leader of Anti-House, and is the credited composer on all numbers, but this music comes across as a cohesive group effort from band of equals. Nary a bad note in the bunch. Not to be missed, in my opinion.
