Heart warming pictures of some of the coziest interiors you would find. Reminds you of the good days that we all have left behind. All those small things..... how just mere wooden shelving can create good storage and how not too gaudy fabrics or interior elements can give a homely vibe, all described through beautiful photos from actual houses.A legendary book now out of print, grab a copy for yourself. I bought two :)What goes around, comes around and style is indeed cyclical. This book is immediately inspiring and it's fun to look at the vintage images and see the funky homes of yesteryear. Don't let the book's age fool you-- there is so much here that's very relevant. Even if you're not decorating or remodeling, this book is a feast for the eyes! One of my favorite interior books. Very appealing '60s and '70s interiors that seem to belong to interesting people. This book has an authenticity and appeal that you will not find in other interior books of the period, which often lean too far in the direction of bland professionalism or tacky manufacturer promotions. Also a glimpse of European family life and mores. Veterans of 1970s Northern California will recognize certain tropes, such as diagonal wood siding, rainbow murals, and children with Free to Be You and Me records.I had this book in the 1980s, and it was comforting to look at the pictures of the different styles, while thinking about my dream home.I fell in love with this book at my college library and had to own a copy for myself. You can spend hours perusing this book and get inspired! Yes, it was published in the 70's, but it's still an excellent reference.Equally excellent is Conran's "The Bed and Bath Book" which I was lucky enough to find at a library sale. This book is decidedly dated yet still manages to be relevant by today's decorating standards. Good style never goes out and although there are some glaringly bad pictures of the 70's heavy-handed approach at it's worse (think crazy patterned wallpaper and excess), there are tons of pictures and details that inspire. The original House Book is still one of my all-time favorite Terence Conran books.I have the later version of this book, which is fine, but really wanted to see where Terrance Conran started over forty years ago. His design strategies are still terrific, though some of the images are dated. Definitely recommend it.The House BookBy Terence Conran <3 THIS BOOK IS PERFECT IF YOU ARE NOSTALGIC ABOUT OLDER ARCHITECTURE AND WAYS OF LIVING. LOVEA life saver, my wife has a really old copy she inherited from somewhere with no cover and half the pages are screwed up, but she uses it all the time for ideas. Found this one in excellent as new condition, even had the original sleeve. She now has one in her workshop and this one pride of place on the book shelves.Brilliant book of 1970's decor in the home. Lots of wonderful pictures as well as useful text for information on how to achieve various looks in the home. I got a used book for 1p!! Brilliant conditiion and huge. The order came quick and the price was not high so no complaints. Unfortunately the pictures in the book have a yellow shade over them. Of course the book was published in 1974 but I wish the pictures would have been more clear.forgotten thisHad this when it first came out years ago. Lost it along the way so it was a nice to look at again.
