Description

2015 release of Piano Na Casa (Piano in the House), a recording that features nine of Brazil's finest piano players, all performing solo compositions. We hear lively choro, frevo and merengue styles, as well as quiet meditations built on rich jazz harmonies. Each pianist has impeccable technique and deep imagination, evoking traditions and moods that feel unique to Brazil and yet part of a global sound. The nine performers on Piano Na Casa are Tiago Costa, Amilton Gody, Karin Fernandes, Hercules Gomes, Benjamin Taubkin, Julia Tygel, Ze Godoy, Fabio Torres, Heloisa Fernandes. Each of them has been recognized in Brazil and beyond with awards and accolades. All enthusiastically enjoyed the collaborative process, noting that pianists rarely get the chance to work together.

Various Artists"PIANO IN THE HOUSE"(Adventure Music/Nucleo-Brasil, 2015)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A wide-ranging, adventurous collection of live performances by nine contemporary Brazilian pianists, working in a range of styles, from jazz and smooth-jazz to Brazilian and classical-influenced material. The best known of these performers are Tiago Costa, Amilton Godoy and Benjamin Taubkin (each may be familiar to fans of earlier releases on the Adventure label...)I'm always happy to hear a new version of Ernesto Nazarth's classic "Odeon," one of my favorite instrumentals in the old "choro" style, and Amilton Godoy's rendition is soulful and sweet. Karin Fernandes tackles "Valsa Da Dor" by Heitor Villa-Lobos, while most of the other tunes are original compositions written by each of the performers. For a cross-section of new artists and various styles, this album paints a strong, vibrant picture of contemporary Brazilian jazz piano. Recommended. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Brazilian Music)
