This book is VERY British. There were a lot of pop-culture references that this clueless Yank didn't get (I googled about half of them and just let the other half slide) but Ms. Devon's writing more than makes up for that. She has a way of writing characters and settings that just suck you in and make you wish that you knew them and lived where they are.Although this book could stand alone, you should definitely read the first book (The Little Clock House On The Green) to fully appreciate it because this book follows three different couples – Kate and Daniel and also Oscar and Juliet whose love stories are featured in the first book, and the newcomers Jake and Emma. It sounds way more confusing than it is, I promise. While this book was really busy, the stories were so great that it was easy to keep up with the goings on. Just like the first two couples, Emma and Jake were both such great characters that I couldn't help but root for them from the start. This book comes to a very sweet conclusion and could totally stand alone, but it also left enough tiny threads flapping that I'm really looking forward to the next book and Gloria's redemption. (And the answer to the Juliet question.)If you enjoy a book that is really well-written, interesting, and that is loaded with humor, you should give this one a read.
