This is a great pop up book with typically amazing Jan P. artistry. Lots of creepy pop ups and moveable parts.I purchased it used in GOOD condition but it was just like new. I couldn't be happier.Love itA pop up book with numerous doors to peek inside, tabs to pull, and so many hidden surprises! The kids loved this book, and we read it again and again.If you've never seen a Jan Pienkowski pop-up book, you are in for a real treat! They are masterfully created, funny, and just so darn clever! This is one to keep and cherish for years - not one you would want little hands ripping apart.This book is great. I bought the original 35 years ago for my son and now I got another one for my grand daughter.They loved it. The pop up monsters and features are great. Highly recommend this for every kid. Great book.The story itself is horrible but the details and art are hands down the best I have ever seen! So I just make up my own story to go with the pictures when reading to my kids. ?I bought this fun book after I read the favorable reviews here, and I am a halloween nut. My kids and I love this book! The pop-ups are awesome and the quality of the book is excellent. What I am not quite sure of is the dialoge/storyline that goes with it. I have looked at and read this book numerous times and still have no clue who the "doctor" is...is it Dr.Frankenstein? Dr. Doolittle perhaps? I am left anxious with no idea who the mysterious doctor is and in the last page, just where did he go? I am thinking he is in the wooden box heading for Translyvania and trying in vain to saw himself out - yet when I peek into the box, I see no doctor, just a bomb with a lit fuse! Cool pop-ups but pretty bizarre story to go along with it.I loved this book as a kid, felt the sentimental bug to get it for my kids to experience. They have enjoyed it too!! It is fragile (paper & moving parts) not for little hands to have unmonitored free range.I had this as a child. I had massive expectations when I saw it again decades on and it didn't disappoint.It is still the best pop up book I have ever seen. Its well made, has a generous number of pages with a great variety of pop ups and slidey bits. The pop ups and pages take a pummelling and with a bit of care I've seen this book survive 10years.It's' fun scary' and ideal for young children.I've bought 2 already having found this again and its always wildly popular with a massive retro value for parents who used to have one.This is much more fun than ipad stuff and it run rings around the quality of pop up books you see for the latest trend children characters.What a fantastic book. My wife grew up with this book and wanted a new copy for her 3 year old niece. The author is the same chap who did the illustrations for Meg the Witch. As a 37 year old, almost adult, this was a delightful book to flick through (before reluctantly handing it over to the niece.) I want to get this for my nephew now so will order another one. Pop-up books are notoriously expensive to make, so its wonderful that this book is back in print.Seen this book on twitter and it was one I had years ago so wanted to get it for my children. The first book arrived damaged, deep scores across the front and back and a couple of small rips. Got in touch with amazon who sent a replacement which when came was fine. The book is lovely and the kids love it!We LOVE this book. There are so many doors, slidey bits, part to spin or move that it entertained our daughter for ages when it first arrived and she loves going back to it.She was giggling at all the funny surprised and creepy monsters. It was perfect as an early Halloween treat for her.this book was bought to replace one that my daughter loved to death many years ago, i saw it and could not resist it, so i bought it for her birthday, it came promptly and i am very pleased with it.
