To start off with, like a lot of other reviewers, I read the first 40 pages of the book and nearly gave it a pass. The continuous overview, which was extremely descriptive and long, was not my thing; it felt monotonous and uninteresting.I read the first 40 pages as a kindle sample, while waiting for my book to arrive, and felt buyers remorse immediately after. I read the reviews after reading the sample (oops), and saw comments saying that the entire book was written in that style (now a big oops), and I also read that Jack's previous story was barely included in it (now I'm seriously crying). It was marked for return before it even arrivedUltimately, after it did arrive, I decided to go ahead and read the first 100 pages; and I am soooo glad I did! The strange overview script style settles down around page 50--granted, it does still have some scattered long, descriptive dialogue, but it's tolerable. The story really picked up around page 100, and I found that I was glued to the pages after that. Jacky's trip to the territories is part of the story; it's just scattered throughout the story versus having it be the main focus. If you can get through the first 50 pages, I think it's a book that's worth reading.
