If you read no further than the first couple sentences of this review, please take this away:House of Rufus is the best box set I've ever owned. The packaging, the quality of the music, the thorough liner notes with full lyrics and tons and tons of material unavailable elsewhere - this is what makes a GREAT box set. While this is the EASILY the most decadent box set release I've seen for an artist still working and releasing music, a very refreshing aspect of the box for me personally is that it doesn't just present Rufus as a genius icon with 19 discs of studio recorded and live performances to back up their claims (it does dare to do just that, too - without question!), but the liner notes are very honest and deal with personal struggles, including family and drug abuse, and it's extremely refreshing for an artist to throw everything out there in that way. Many box sets tend to gloss over material which may embarrass the star of the show.If you can afford it, pick it up. At the time of my purchase it was $150 on amazon, and I've spent as much on box sets for single albums (Beach Boys) and other complete works such as Blur 21.
