Description

Limited two CD live recording taken from The Divine Comedy's sublime set at the prestigious Somerset House as part of their acclaimed 2010 Summer Series. Neil Hannon, the legend behind The Divine Comedy's satirical melodies, performed a phenomenal acoustic set to the back drop of the sun setting over the neo-classical building sat on the Strand. With a career built in the early '90s, Neil and The Divine Comedy have never failed to deliver. Performing well loved hits alongside tracks from the critically acclaimed 2010 album, the July show was a brilliant reminder of why Neil is still pushing boundaries.

I could and have listened to this like album from The Divine comedy more times than I can count at this point. It feels very much like a small-to-medium sized gig with a really engaged and happy audience. Everybody laughs and cheers, Neil Hannon flubs lines and jokes several times but it only adds to the good feeling vibes that permeate this album. The album itself is apparently just Neil switching off between piano and an acoustic guitar. The vocals aren't as bombastic, but have that gentler tone that was present on Bang Goes The Knighthood. You can tell this is a guy who is completely at ease with performing. There aren't many fans of The Divine Comedy in the US, but hopefully that'll change one day soon. The Divine Comedy is definitely a band that once you discover it, you'll want to go 100% all in. Tor those of us who are familiar with this act, this is an album that is totally worth owning.
