I've been looking for a nice quality bookcase to change up the decor in our living room. When I saw the look of this one I knew it would start the overhaul I've been looking forward to. This piece of furniture is heavy, but in a really good way. It isn't cheap like the bookcases you find at the big box stores that are made of particle board. When we unboxed the pieces we were impressed with how sturdy they all felt. The aesthetics overall are great, the coloring and the detail are very well done.Putting this together was a breeze. My husband and I had this unboxed, put together, and set up in our living room in under 15 minutes. The directions are clear and it is easily a one person job. I've included a few different pictures because the color (in person) is a gray-ish brown wood. Depending on lighting it can look much more light brown / gray but then a darker, more brown-toned color in indirect light. Since I am so pleased with this bookcase I am not looking at other pieces of furniture and decor from the brand. If you're looking for a high-quality piece of furniture definitely take a look at this!UPDATE: adding an updated picture of the book case in the space we had intended it for. Overall, I'm more in love with this now than I was when we first received it. It's beautiful and works so well in the space. The quality is, again, great. I'm immensely happy with this piece of furniture! I also love that when adjusting the shelves the stops are not the plastic ones you pop in, rather they are metal ones that screw in to ensure that your shelves will securely stay in place.I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this book shelf is. I currently have it in my kids playroom holding toys, but it could easily be used for many different things. Bar area, books, media/computer equipment etc. It was very easy to put together, and I am not handy. I think it took 30-45 mins to put together I needed a Phillips head screwdriver. Directions were simple and every piece was clearly labeled. It looks great and is sturdy. My only issue is there is a fairly strong chemical smell and you can tell it isn’t real wood. Holds a ton of toys and the shelves are adjustable. The back is open with a metal support. Overall it’s very nice.This Classic Brands Rustic Farm House Three Shelf Solid Wood Bookcase is not so rustic, but quite stylish and simple. It does the job well for selfing books and household items.The only disappointment is that it's not entirely made solid wood even though it's titled solid wood. It combines with particleboard, a cheaper and less lasting material.As for the appearance and functionality, I recommend it!I was really surprised by how sturdy this bookshelf was! It was very simple to put together as most of the complicated parts of it were already preassembled. It isn’t cheap looking at all. The legs are very sturdy and were simple to screw into place. It only required a screwdriver which was easy. There were a couple screw holes that seemed To be cross threaded and didn’t really catch. However it is still secure due to the others. I like that the shelves have notches in them to stay in place when you chose their position. They will not get bumped or knocked out of place. My main complaint is the back bottom of the shelf you are supposed to screw in the X metal bars… the top of the shelf had predrilled holes. The bottom did not. I originally thought that I may have put it together backwards but I checked the front and the back of the bottom shelf and there were no holes anywhere on it. So I had to guess where they should be and screw them in without any threading myself.Because of the weight of the overall package and the thickness of each of the shelves, I expected this Classic Brands Rustic Farm House Bookcase to be a LOT better.As with all flatpack furniture, you should unpack everything, lay it out and read the directions twice. Or in this case, look at the picture directions twice.The assembly was not especially easy; because everything was so heavy it was difficult to get everything into place and to maneuver around it. But I did. The final step is to put a metal cross brace on the back, screwing each end of the metal x into a corner. I thought this was a great idea, to add more stability. When you assemble this, it will probably be either upside down or on it's side. When I was done, I lifted it up and the screws in the cross brace on the back popped out, sending my curious cat scurrying.I put it in place and inserted the shelf screws, placed the shelves and started to put books on the shelves. The shelf screws started to pop out and the shelves started to wobble around. Eventually, I got this settled, but it doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence that this bookshelf will last a long time or be very sturdy.How could something that is so heavy and has such thick shelves, be little better than a cheap $49 bookshelves from some 99 cent store?I’m in love with this little bookcase. I’m used to buying the cheaper end furniture from the big box stores or even Amazon, but this is solid wood that will last for a very long time. Assembly was a breeze that only took about 20 minutes in total. Instead of the usual cam locks, this used sturdy wood screws to anchor each piece together and the crossbar in the back. The finish is a great dark color that compliments most of my rooms. We are going to use it for our 6 year olds room so it needs to be anchored to the wall with the hardware provided. I would suggest that if you have smaller children maybe you should purchase a better wall anchor than the one provided. I can say that this is a great bookshelf that can work for many uses and rooms.
