I cannot believe a book like this exists. For almost 16 years, I have studied the books of Ben Carson especially Think Big and Gifted Hands. With these two books and God's grace, I transitioned from an average student into an A student. I now have a very successful career.One of the questions I have had about Dr. Carson was how did he manage his family while still being a student... because I knew he married early? I did not understand that part and I wondered for years. Mrs Carson provides the details I have always been looking for. Mrs Carson's presence in this man's life is a super secret ingredient in his success story. Whereas Dr. Carson's books provide you with the steps for success and the reasons you should succeed, this book lets you understand "for whom" you should succeed.Although I would have wanted much more detail BUT this book has met my expectations. I wanted to know what kind of accommodation the Carsons resided in at the beginning of his career and how they managed that, she provides the answer. I wanted to know how money came in at the beginning, the answer is there. I wanted to know what they did in their spare time and how he managed to combine that with the medical creativity that made him great, the answers are here. Did they always have good times or was there reality, like sadness and pain, it's here. In short, this book fills in the blanks in Think Big and Gifted Hands.For any single person looking forward to marrying soon, this book provides a solid template that you can build on for your own marriage and family. This man and his wife started life in a one bedroom apartment and now they have helped thousands of kids, inspired millions around the world and are greatly blessed. Chapter 10 "Becoming the Doctor's Wife" would probably be great for doctor's spouses HOWEVER it is pure gold for anyone who will be married to or is already married to a serious, hardworking, honest and successful spouse. The fact that they are still together 40 years later is testament to the fact that Mrs Carson's details should be taken very seriously.I love Dr. Carson and his wife. I wish he becomes president. Whether or not that happens this book will change lives once again as Dr. Carson's books have done. I am truly grateful indeed.We just got the book yesterday and we have already read it all the way through! It is a great story of a life well lived and you can't put the book down once you get started. It is a great insight into an already great view from the outside of a family that cares deeply about the direction our nation is going. We will be watching to see the outcome of the coming election events and we are hopeful that a man of this character will go in to the White House. It is a very refreshing and in some case humorous content of their life together. I hope this book will go far as it is WELL WORTH reading more than once! My favorite parts were when Candy added her extra thoughts in (parenthesis)! So funny!! The stories are a bit all over the place, but really I enjoyed the book!On a personal note, my boyfriend is preparing to begin medical school in a few months so this was a good read for me to hear from a Doctor's wife's perspective on the crazy life he (and I) are about to embark on. Love that Candy and Ben support one another in their dreams. I think Ben was only able to accomplish all of what he has been because he had such a strong and supportive wife by his side. I even loaned my boyfriend my copy of the book so he could read from her perspective! Love the Carons!I have read and heared from Ben Carson's books and this was a great perspective from his wife. Loved reading it.Dr. Carson's wife, Candy, does an admirable job of making the reader feel a part of the Carson family. I'm proud to be on their invitation list. Herein, you will get to know them better, as she traces their relationship from early friendship through marriage and family and work experiences. It is refreshing to see how a traditional marriage bears such good fruit over time. As a reader, you'll be informed of events known only by by means of Candy Carson's fine, true story-telling. I'm convinced they'd make a wonderful President and First Lady for our country. They both bear God-given gifts of leadership with humility to be successful as a team, no matter how difficult the situation. Enjoy!.It is a good read. Both Candy and her husband are very very knowledgeable people with brilliant minds. Ben comes out in the book absolutely squeaky clean. They've had their sorrows and trials and this gives them authority to empathise with people. They are spending their lives serving others, and their strong Christian faith comes through repeatedly. Their faith is what gives them the strength to carry on without a doubt. They have vision and purpose and are spending their lives in the service of others. They are also models of a successful marriage. You can't help but admire them for all they are and all they are doing.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!! So many things I didn't know about the Carson's -- all positive. To me it high lighted his ability to work under difficult situations, make thoughtful decisions, consider all risks, work within a team -- be a team leader, think outside the box, do things that have never been done before ---- all under great pressure to perform well for the best possible resolution. I hope I get the chance to vote for him for President ---- we need a man who can perform under pressure without ego, with respect for the outcome in both the short and long term.How I enjoyed the wife's eye view of Dr Carson. Having read his story in many places, it was refreshing to hear who Candy is and how she has viewed this extraordinary man. Whether he is your candidate or not for President, this is a man who rose from a one parent home in poverty where there was NO poverty of spirit, to become a much honored pediatric neurosurgeon.Easy to read, not a whitewash of the man or his character, she shares their beginnings, their struggles, their faith and their hopes for the future. They sound like the couple I wish lived next door!!Just perfect. It arrived on time and in good condition. I totally enjoyed reading it.Letzte Woche kam das Buch "A Doctor in the House" von Candy Carson raus. Ihre Lebensgeschichte. Aber das Meiste ist doch Ben und Ben und nochmals Ben. Er ist ja ihr Leben... was soll sie denn sonst schreiben. Ja, sie schreibt schon was sie gemacht hat, vor allem mit der Musik und mit ihren Kindern. Ich hab's gelesen - sie schreibt wie ihr der Schnabel gewachsen ist. Am Ende sagt sie, dass sie das Buch innerhalb von 4 Wochen geschrieben hat... Dafür ist das Buch übertrieben teuer. Aber das Geld spendet sie ja an Wohltätigkeit, wahrscheinlich dem Schülerfonds Carson Scholars Fund. Das ist schon eine sehr gute Sache. Wer erwartet hat, etwas wirklich Neues über Candy und Ben zu erfahren, wird enttäuscht. Ben ist wie immer der so nette gute Arzt und sie seine treu-sorgende Ehefrau. Aber so sind sie eben. Ich habe beide persönlich kennen gelernt, als sie mal in Deutschland waren, und sie sind wirklich ganz bescheiden und lieb.I really enjoyed this book, it was an easy read and a pleasant book. Very homely. The Carsons are an amazing family.Excellent, well written. A wonderful American success story. Such humble people.
